Eat my own words
I’ve cursed them sometimes. Many a times, I used to be happy that they are around. A few days back, they did well indeed, but still I cursed them that they are blocking opportunities of youngsters. They were also getting old and I felt that we’ve finally found out enough talent to replace them at higher level. But now, in Australia, only the old war heads were fighting. Dravid made a gritty 53, Laxman made a very very special surgical 109, Ganguly made a sublime 67 and our own Tendulkar carved unbeaten 154 runs. Heros of the victories in last two series against Australia. When the series started, I felt that Yuvraj would play better than what we can expect from Laxman.(Laxman in his prime was a treat to watch.) But yesterday, the way he played, I was clueless. Such an attacking simplicity. Why doesn’t he play such an innings throughout the previous year? Or, as Aussies say, does he deserves his best for Australia? It was painful to see the way Yuvraj and Dhoni are struggling. If one of them played sensibly today, we’d have got a huge lead and we might have won the match. When I was going through some of the sports column in Aussie newspapers, I was shocked to see how Laxman was treated there. People love to watch him and they expect special innings everytime from him. So many people have dissected his 109. They do remember his epic 281. No other countryman has retained a place in their hearts like Laxman. I feel bad that I lost faith in him. I understand why Kumble and others kept faith in laxman and retained him. In 1999 series, Sachin used to score and there were none to score around him except the 167 by laxman in losing cause in the last test. In the 2001 series, Laxman, Dravid, Sachin, Ganguly and Kumble were the pillars of victory. Now again, these 5 men are fighting a brave battle but no support from other 3 batsmen.

Sad way to end the day!
Any death news is disturbing and particularly hearing cruel terrorist attack is too painful.
Murphy's law!!!!
“Things will go wrong in any given situation, if you give them a chance.” 7.30 AM, I just lifted my head to see the time and prayed to God “Hope, it doesn’t follow the Murphy’s law and break my heart.” It was tempting for me to get up, hurry to the next room and have a look. But then, what if goes wrong? Can’t think about it. So decided to prolong as much as possible. Tried to sleep for another hour, but then thoughts were coming to my mind and disturbing me so much. Decided!!! Enough is enough!!! Let me go and see whether it has followed Murphy’s law! “God, please. After a long time, you’ve provided an opportunity to these people yesterday and please help them today also. I want to start the day on positive note and please don’t make me to feel sad. It’s a golden opportunity for us to make a mark.” With so many prayers and thoughts running through my mind, I went to next room and switched on my laptop. My mind was racing so hard to know the result and my heart was feeling warmer. Laptop took it’s own time to start cursing me how I overload them. Clicked broadband icon to bring internet connection and typed www.cricinfo.com in address bar of internet explorer. I was getting more anxious. Will we survive? Site opened and I saw the shocking headlines. “Lee rattles Indian Top order”. My heart sank. Opened scoreboard and saw 124/6. Yesterday our bowlers fought so hard and today our batters played defensively to loose the advantage. Murphy’s law!!!! Finally Indians were blown out for just 196 and with that our hopes were also blown away. Can India win a series against Australia in Australia in our lifetime??? God-Only you have replies.

Got back the PETROL!!!
While I was searching for mechanic, I just went to petrol bunk and filled petrol for 100rs. I had a small doubt about initial setting at the petrol level reader. After filling, I left for mechanic hunting. I just looked at my petrol level indicator in my vehicle and got shocked. It seems that petrol was filled for only 60rs, since I know the level where the needle reaches, when I fill the petrol. It was well below the mark. Felt very upset since these days each and every penny is becoming too valuable. I realized that the fellow who had filled would have done for his own personal gain and the pump owners won’t be aware of it. So I thought if I could complain to them, at least they can keep an eye on him or warn him to reduce these irregularities. I went back to bunk but I found everyone has dress similar to him. I could not find anybody in charge of that particular bunk at that time. By the time, the fellow who filled realized and called me. I explained him the situation. It seems that he realized that if I complain or talk more, others will come to know about him and may get ashamed. He just told me that he’d fill the petrol for 30rs. I decided not to create a scene and hoped that he won’t repeat. Felt that advising him of won’t be useful and complaint after his acceptance is of no use. Already he was bit embarrassed (at least I felt). This is the first time; I went and got back the petrol. I’ve missed on few times. Hereafter I won’t miss.
Automobile Engineering???
Kir’s vehicle didn’t start at all. So many kicks from Basheer and Kir. Still no reaction. Time was 9 pm. That too on Christmas day. I started to look for some mechanic shops. I could not locate anything for some distance. Sajan and Basheer went in opposite direction to locate one mechanic. Either shops are closed or the shop fellow is closing the shop and not interested in coming. Finally we three reached the place where Kir was trying to start his bike. Finally, one auto fellow after seeing us, stopped, came with tools. The way he handled the problem and provided a temporary solution ----- Practical Engineering can ever be matched. Even though we’ve studied automobile engineering as one subject, even though we know spark ignition works, still locating and troubleshooting a problem looks very distant. I do remember that we had a chapter on troubleshooting. I was just wondering, why I don’t find any interest in understanding my vehicle and try to solve on my own rather than depend on somebody. When I had automobile engineering as subject, I never knew how to ride a bike and also I was never interested in that. So, probably my interests were limited to academics alone. Today, me a production engineering graduate, Kir, Basheer and sajan are mechanical engineering graduates were looking for somebody to troubleshoot our vehicle. So let’s hope that we can soon apply ourselves to solve at least simple problems. Will it be possible? Spoiling our hands with oil? Dirty? Strain? Maybe I’ve become too lazy to try these things.

X-Mas and Our Santa Claus
25-12-2007
8.00 AM. Everyone in my home was in deep sleep. We got into a bad habit of sleeping late in the night which extends in the morning till 10 Am. Suddenly we heard loud and fast knocks on the door. Confused, my mom got up and opened the door. I was just turning back to see who it was! My mom exclaimed in joy “Oh! It’s Christmas. Come victor” I understood immediately. My mom’s happy voice is not towards Christmas, but towards seeing Victor. Victor is one of my brother’s best friends, but who has also become a best caring family friend. Every Christmas, he comes to our home early in the morning with so much sweets and a big cake. That too he has to travel at least 45 min to reach my home. Last year, he’s come at 5.30 AM. For the last 7 years, every Christmas Victor after finishing his prayers in church, he takes a big baggage of sweets and cake, he visits us. He has never missed a single Christmas without coming to our home. We also got into a habit of waking up and looking at Victor’s face as our SANTA CLAUS. Though we’ve never given anything to him at anytime, he is always caring and affectionate towards us. Never expects anything from us but gives us whatever he can. I’m sure that if everyone follows this rule, you will have special place in everyone’s heart and everyone will be friends forever. God is great!!!
